THE FINAL POST OF THE TERM-GOODBYE!

Hello everyone!      Today, I will share my thoughts on my Material Design in English Language Teaching course since it is my last post about it.      I feel like I saw the teacher part of the things I learned with the Educational Technologies course. I am glad that I took both of these courses and did all these tasks. Throughout the term, I did lot of tasks, I learned many different concepts about material design and they helped me a lot in terms of planning my future teaching. With the help of this course, I know that I have MANY options while creating my materials and also I learned how to transform coursebooks' projects and tasks to better ones. I am also glad that this course is offered by such an foresighted person, Dr. Kurt, as she taught us about the flipped classroom, technology-integrated tasks and projects. Because I believe that these will generate the future of the education.      The only weakness of this course was i...

Creating a Tehnology-Enhanced Project

Hello everyone,     Today, I will share our technology-enhanced project with you. The task was to redesign a project to make it technology-integrated. It was a group task, my teammates were Yaren and Oğuz. We chose our project from MEB's Preparatory Class Student's Book. Here are the original project steps: Prepare your own poster about how to protect our nature and write your slogan on it as in the examples below.      Then, present your poster to your friends.      In the original project, there are not enough steps to explain the porject and it is not integrating any use of technology. Also, the project is not giving a chance for the students to facilitate self-learning or practice their language skills.      The original project involves creating a poster which is composed of a slogan and a visual. We changed it with creating an infographic which involves visuals and data. Creating an infographic requires students to d...

Creating an Augmented Reality Integrated Material

Hello everyone!      Today, I will be sharing my augmented reality worksheets and project material with you. My task was to create an augmented reality integrated material explaining a place abroad and guide students to explore it. I chose Italy. I used Canva to create the handout as it's really easy to use. I introduced some landmarks, a gallery and a carnival. I searched for the 3D videos or 360 videos for the places I have chosen. I found one video for each place and added their QR codes to my worksheets. I also asked 5 or 6 questions for the students to answer after watching 360 videos. I also added one fun fact for each place to make the handout more engaging. I used extra visuals to make the handout more visually appealing.  Then, I created a project for the students to share what they have learned before. Students should plan a trip and write a letter to their friend to share their plan. I tought it would be a good idea as my handout looks like a travel ...

Creating A Grammar Teaching Video-A Group Project

Hi everyone!     Today, I will be sharing our grammar teaching video and grammar worksheet. I already shared my thoughts on flipped class with you, please visit my previous post if you want to check it out. However, I want to discuss it specific to grammar teaching. Grammar teaching is a time-consuming activity in the classroom. Students are generally silently sit and listen to the teacher, which is not exactly what we need in the classroom. We need learners to be active. Flipped grammar teaching paves the way for the learners to be more active and self-confident. It reduces the time spent on lecturing. I find flipped classroom beneficial specifically when teaching grammar and I'd love to use it with my students.     As for the video and worksheet, first we examined the workbook and decided on the grammar subject we want to work on. Then, we created a lesson plan and text to voice-over. After Yaren and I voice-overed the text, we discussed which tool to us...

Creating a Vocabulary Teaching Video- A Group Task

Hi everyone!     Today I will be sharing our vocabulary teaching video and interactive exercise that we created together with Oğuz and Yaren with you. This video is created to be used for a flipped class. Shortly, this video is for the students to watch before the class and after that do the exercise to reinforce the vocabulary. I think this way, learners feel ready to class, and participate more to prove that they learned the subject. Also, this is a great way to reduce the time spent on teacher's explaining the subject allowing the class to focus on using the language and practice speaking. However, some students may not watch the video and come to class leading them to feel like they're falling behind their peers. I think there are more advantages than disadvantages, so I would love to use flipped class videos whenever it is possible.       Our instructor offered us two textbooks to choose and we chose 5th grade textbook. We determined the subject ...

Language Awareness Task- A Group Project

Hi everyone,               Today, I will be sharing my language awareness task with you. Language awareness tasks aim to make learners aware of language through using technology, corpora, data, especially authentic use of language. These tasks' goal is to make students engage in learning process and figure the language rules and their appropriate use themselves.   Thanks to these tasks learners  explore language themselves. It enables students to be active in the learning journey, be in control of their learning process. Furthermore, teachers play the role of a guide in learners’ language learning process. Teachers design lessons which promote inductive learning rather than deductive learning. Learners learn by discovering the language rather than inactively listening.             We, as a group, created a language awareness task by using the tool Canva. We firstly guide learne...
