Creating a Vocabulary Teaching Video- A Group Task

 Hi everyone!

Today I will be sharing our vocabulary teaching video and interactive exercise that we created together with Oğuz and Yaren with you. This video is created to be used for a flipped class. Shortly, this video is for the students to watch before the class and after that do the exercise to reinforce the vocabulary. I think this way, learners feel ready to class, and participate more to prove that they learned the subject. Also, this is a great way to reduce the time spent on teacher's explaining the subject allowing the class to focus on using the language and practice speaking. However, some students may not watch the video and come to class leading them to feel like they're falling behind their peers. I think there are more advantages than disadvantages, so I would love to use flipped class videos whenever it is possible.

Our instructor offered us two textbooks to choose and we chose 5th grade textbook. We determined the subject we wanted to work on which is daily routines. After that, we chose the vocabulary. Then, Yaren and I created a short conversation including those vocabulary. We voice-overed  the conversation and Oğuz created the video by using Animaker. It is a tool to create characters and animations easily. After that, we decided to use the website wordwall. It is a website to create quizzes and games and also share them with other teachers and students. Once you create a quiz, you can switch templates and use it in other forms. It also has a feature which allows users to create an interactive and set it as an assignment. Besides, it has a leader-board to track the results.

Here I will share friends' blogs, our flipped video and game. I hope you like them.

Creating A Grammar Teaching Video-A Group Project

Hi everyone!     Today, I will be sharing our grammar teaching video and grammar worksheet. I already shared my thoughts on flipped class with you, please visit my previous post if you want to check it out. However, I want to discuss it specific to grammar teaching. Grammar teaching is a time-consuming activity in the classroom. Students are generally silently sit and listen to the teacher, which is not exactly what we need in the classroom. We need learners to be active. Flipped grammar teaching paves the way for the learners to be more active and self-confident. It reduces the time spent on lecturing. I find flipped classroom beneficial specifically when teaching grammar and I'd love to use it with my students.     As for the video and worksheet, first we examined the workbook and decided on the grammar subject we want to work on. Then, we created a lesson plan and text to voice-over. After Yaren and I voice-overed the text, we discussed which tool to us...

Creating a Tehnology-Enhanced Project

Hello everyone,     Today, I will share our technology-enhanced project with you. The task was to redesign a project to make it technology-integrated. It was a group task, my teammates were Yaren and Oğuz. We chose our project from MEB's Preparatory Class Student's Book. Here are the original project steps: Prepare your own poster about how to protect our nature and write your slogan on it as in the examples below.      Then, present your poster to your friends.      In the original project, there are not enough steps to explain the porject and it is not integrating any use of technology. Also, the project is not giving a chance for the students to facilitate self-learning or practice their language skills.      The original project involves creating a poster which is composed of a slogan and a visual. We changed it with creating an infographic which involves visuals and data. Creating an infographic requires students to d...

A Digital Poster- Lord of the Flies Movie Poster

Hello to all of you!     Today, I will be talking about creating a digital poster task. The task includes 2 options. You can create a movie poster imagining that the book you're reading is being made into a movie, or you can create a magazine cover.       I chose the movie poster option because I wanted to cast the stars as I imagined the book characters to be. Also, I thought it would be better to stick with Lord of the Flies book as I reviewed it before. You can see my book review here.       I used Poster My Wall website to create my poster. It was easy to use. However, to me,  it doesn't support creativity, unfortunately. I think this tool can be very useful to fulfill tasks like creating invitation cards( birthday party, wedding, conference, etc.), thank you cards, special day cards (Mother's Day, Christmas, etc.), or flyers. When I was a 4th or 5th-grade student, my teachers used to give me creating a birthday party invitation...
